When I tell the story about how I changed my career from being an aerospace engineer at Airbus in Germany to working as a quantum-simulation researcher in the U.K., I’m usually met with raised eyebrows. However, when I actually asked myself: What do I want to do with my life? The answer was easy—I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in quantum physics.
