Optical Transmission: The FP7 BONE Project Experience

António Teixeira and Giorgio Maria Tosi Beleffi , Eds.

Springer, 2012; $129.00 (hardcover).

Optical Transmission is a collection of several topics related to transmission in optical systems. It is suitable for researchers and professional engineers. Over 40 European research institutions collaborated on this optical networking project.  The book starts with a description of the state-of-the-art in transmission systems, then dives into signal processing, management and monitoring. Simulation principles for the long haul are also discussed, and later complemented with recent experimental achievements.  Finally, the editors weigh the economics behind the models and strategies for the next generation of optical networks.
