U.S. Marine Corps and Alfalight Sign $49 Million Laser Contract

6 June 2014—Madison, Wisconsin-based Alfalight, developer of infrared and visible laser systems for military and security, has announced that the U.S. Marine Corps has awarded the company a contract worth $49 million for delivery of “non-lethal ocular disruptors with enhanced safety” (NLOD-ES), or rugged eye-safe green lasers to “dazzle” eyesight at long-range. The contract from the U.S. Marine Corps System Command (MARCORSYSCOM) specifies an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity for five years for a maximum value of $49 million.

Alfalight will deliver the NLOD-ES lasers to MARCORSYSCOM in Quantico, Va., beginning in 2014. The NLOD-ES is a compact green laser for hailing and warning, employing automated, integrated controls to ensure eye-safe operation. Alfalight uses similar technology in a contract for another long-range ocular disruption system to be delivered to the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center, announced in January.
