May 21, 2012—A market research report from ElectroniCast Consultants (Upper Lake, Calif., U.S.A.) predicts that the worldwide market for fiber-optic fusion splicers in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will climb at an average annual growth rate of 20 percent through 2016. The “Fiber Optic Fusion Splice Global Market Forecast” report, released 15 May, provides a review of 2011 and a five-year forecast of the use of fiber-optic fusion splice machines through 2016.

A fusion splicer is a specialized instrument used to mate the ends of optical fibers. The market research study report covers the use of fusion splice machines used in fiber-optic-based communication applications and in component manufacturing in those applications.

For 2011, the APAC region consumed the most fiber-optic fusion splicers, helped along substantially by consumption in China. The APAC region growth of relative market share is driven by increasing installation of fiber closer to the drop-areas, and the use of fusion splice machines in manufacturing fiber-optic components and devices. Consumption of fusion splice equipment in cable TV, military/aerospace and various specialty/other applications are also quantified in the report.
