Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths

The editors have produced a detailed and updated research monograph on rare earth material including actinides and their technological applications. This monograph should be of interest to image scientists and graduate students involved in biomaterial science in connection with nanophotonics applications.

The updated chapter on rare earth transition metal plumbides includes a detailed account of the crystal chemistry, magnetic and transport properties as well as Mossbauer and solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

Readers interested in forensic applications will find a detailed survey on anticounterfeiting and latent fingerprint developers, which also includes lanthanide nanomaterials with further research inside on the luminescent material properties.

Furthermore, the recent development of luminescent labels for biomedical analysis via lanthanide chelates should attract a wide readership. In this chapter, time-resolved lanthanide luminescence imaging and time-resolved immunoassays are discussed in detail with a variety of biomedical applications. This excellent volume also addresses the interesting perspective on ultrasensitive time-resolved imaging, which could be of interest to imaging biologists.
