This book, volume 101 of the publisher’s “Semiconductors and Semimetals” collection, demonstrates tremendous results in the direction of integrating silicon technology in photonics. The book has nine chapters written by experts in the field. Chapter 1 describes the building blocks in silicon photonics; chapters 2 and 3 are dedicated to heterogeneous integration using bonding; and chapters 4 through 9 focus on epitaxial growth for silicon photonics.

The book is very clearly written, and beautiful illustrations accompany the explanations. The entire “Semiconductors and Semimetals” collection is a must for any physics and engineering university library.
