This book reviews the properties and applications of photo-elastic, acousto-optic, magneto-optic, electro-optic and photorefractive materials. All in all, it presents a very large variety of topics and thus emphasizes breadth rather than depth.

In my opinion, the book may be most useful as a way to get an overview of this collection of subjects, or as a window through which to glimpse any one of the subjects and then go deeper using the references provided. The book will certainly become one of the standard references for crystal optics and will help to stimulate further interactions between optics and electronics. I can recommend it for every worker in the field, including researchers, lecturers and graduate students.
