Nonlinear-Emission Photonic Glass Fiber and Waveguide Devices

This compact volume provides the reader with detailed means for undertaking the design of active glass fiber and waveguide devices. The mathematical aspects include explanations of numerical techniques for analyzing nonlinear rate equations as well as Matlab codes for performing relevant computations. Those aspects are complemented by explanations of the physics of transition-metal and rare-earth-doped glass materials, and by discussions of a variety of devices including fiber lasers and amplifiers. Some of the content has previously appeared in journal papers by the authors.

Researchers in the field will be able to utilize this volume as a valuable reference. The book may also be of benefit to advanced students in optoelectronics, electrical engineering and materials science.
