Graphene Photonics

One among a very few books on the topic, Graphene Photonics is written by two well-known experts in the field. The book is focused more on the physics of the medium rather than on photonic devices, with separate chapters dedicated to electronic, optical, optoelectronic and nonlinear optical properties. Photonic devices are all lumped together in a final chapter, with minimal detail provided on fabrication.

The authors intended the book as a resource for technologists and researchers, a purpose it meets well, and also as a textbook for graduate students and senior undergraduate students, where it might have less success. The book does include copious references in each chapter, but lacks application problems for course use. The heavy mathematical treatment, appropriate for the topic, pervades the book from the first page to the last, which is likely to further limit the audience of the book among undergraduate students. The book includes a detailed index and several black and white figures and charts. In the end, this is a well-written book on a highly current topic, well-worth the investment in time, money and reading effort.
