This well-organized book compares and contrasts the reliabilities of the corresponding components that make up the major networks in use today, as well as the reliability of facilities used to operate the networks. It also explains how individual reliabilities combine to form system reliability depending on the redundancies employed.  The examples and questions for students at the end of the chapters are helpful and appropriate for the material. The author states that empirical data is often needed to inform the reliability models. The trade-off between accuracy and complexity of several probability functions is also discussed.
