The field of nonlinear fiber optics has advanced considerably since the publication of the first edition of this book in 1989. The fifth includes an updated version of most of the content from the previous edition. The present volume also includes recent research in the design of photonic crystal and other microstructure fibers. Supercontinuum generation in optical fibers is presented in the last chapter. Nonlinear Fiber Optics is an exemplary textbook designed for upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in nonlinear optics, fiber optics or optical communications. The problems provided at the end of each chapter will be useful to instructors of such courses. I would also recommend this book to engineers and scientists working in the fields of fiber optics and optical communications.
