When looking back at a career, it’s easy to fall into the trap of hindsight bias—narrating the chapters of one’s life as if it were all part of some master plan. But how could such an organic progression be possible when interests and opportunities both change over time? Closer to the truth, I think, is that one does the best they can for the foreseeable future, and luck does the rest.
