3D-printing a Lamborghini / POM draws a big online crowd / OSA Fellow stories / Honors for Polzik, Murnane, Kapteyn, Kochan, Anderson and Li / Thank you, editors and volunteers

In December 2019, OSA Fellow Sterling Backus, Thorlabs, USA, and his family, including son Xander, were asked to star in a holiday commercial for the luxury carmaker Lamborghini. Why? Because the father–son duo has embarked on a fast and furious STEM project—building a Lamborghini Aventador with a 3D printer. Backus used the 3D-drafting software Solidworks to enlarge a toy model of the car as a template, and he and Xander used a desktop 3D printer to make many of the parts used in the project.
