“[Jack] Jewell presented the group’s most recent work: low-threshold electrically pumped vertical-cavity surface-emitting micro-lasers, or surface-emitting diode lasers, or … μ-lasers … [T]hese lasers will find use in signal-processing applications, using arrays with fiber bundles, pattern recognition, and generally in any application that requires lasers to be turned on with very little current.”
