The global optics and photonics market, valued at US$480 billion in 2014 by OSA Industry Development Associates (OIDA), comprises many end-use segments, including displays, photovoltaics (PVs), light-emitting diodes (LEDs), consumer imaging, biomedicine, communications, security, machine tools, precision optics and optical storage. A recent OIDA report broke out the production value of these segments in terms of revenues, including embedded technology that is not sold on the merchant market.
