This special issue of Optics & Photonics Newsmarks the beginning of a yearlong celebration of optics and photonics, the U.N.-designated International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies (IYL). IYL’s main goal is to get the word out to everyone on the planet about the importance of optics in everyday life. And I can think of no group better equipped to spread this word than OSA’s student chapters.
