Based on preliminary 2014 production numbers, the OSA Industry Development Associates (OIDA)* estimates that revenues in optics and photonics reached US$480 billion in 2014—a US$27 billion increase from 2013, a new high, and good news for the industry. The moderate 6 percent year-to-year growth (relatively strong for such a sizable industry) indicates continued recovery from downturns in 2009 and 2012.
