Paul Corkum uses laser pulses that last a quintillionth of a second to study atoms and molecules.

Corkum and his team at Canada’s National Research Council and the University of Ottawa captured the first image of an electron orbiting a molecule. He currently directs the Joint Attosecond Science Laboratory in Ottawa and holds a Canada Research Chair in Attosecond Technology at the University of Ottawa. He will be a keynote speaker at OSA’s Frontiers in Optics meeting this month.
