OSA Past President Sir Peter Knight has retired from his position as Deputy Rector (Research) at Imperial College London to take up a new post as the first Principal of the Kavli Royal Society International Centre in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom. The focus of the Centre is on strengthening science, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. This goal will be increasingly important as issues around sustainability, climate change and energy require international thinking and cooperation in the quest to find global solutions. Knight will remain associated with the College as policy adviser to the Rector, emeritus professor of quantum optics and senior research investigator in the department of physics.
