Photonics Research at Australia’s Swinburne University of Technology

The Centre for Micro-Photonics at Australia’s Swinburne University of Technology has emerged as a leader in interdisciplinary photonics education and research. OSA Fellow Barry Masters recounts his recent visit to this world-class institution.

In July 2007, I flew into Melbourne and spent one month as a visiting professor at the Centre for Micro-Photonics (CMP) at Swinburne University of Technology in Victoria, Australia. The CMP is part of Swinburne’s optics and laser laboratories and includes the Centre for Ultrahigh Bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS), a Centre of Excellence funded by the Australian Research Council.
