I have seen the idea for a heads-up display in a contact lens described a few other places, but it’s pretty shocking to see it in an optical magazine (Scatterings, April 2008). The developers of the device may be very good at developing MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) devices, but they need to brush up on their optics. You can’t just put a pattern of light sources against the eye and expect the subject to see the pattern.
