My journey began in May 2002. I was leaving Corvis, the skyrocketing start-up that had bought my first company—Algety Telecom—two years earlier. Algety had been the result of six years of research in the France Telecom R&D Center in Lannion, France—a city of 20,000 people and a telecom hub. (Alcatel, Lucent and Siemens all have a presence there, along with numerous start-ups.)
