Compact Camera Module Market to Double in Five Years

11 September, 2015—A new market research report by Yole DĂ©veloppement (Lyon, France) predicts that the market for compact camera modules will more than double from 2015 to 2020, reaching US$51 billion, at a compound annual growth rate of 16.8 percent.

The report also finds that the associated lens and sensor markets for micro-cameras are on a different trajectory, maturing at 14 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Mobile devices and automotive use in backup cameras are the primary drivers of the compact camera market. Compact cameras combine subcomponents such as image sensors and packaging from the semiconductor industry, optical lens sets from the optical industry, and voice coil motors from the micromotor industry.

The demand for slimmer devices with high-resolution cameras is driving the market, but the report says automotive cameras are becoming must-have standard equipment.
