16 January 2015—Market research firm Optech Consulting (Taegerwilen, Switzerland) predicts that the global market growth for industrial laser systems for materials processing will continue in 2015, after increasing 8 percent from US$10.7 billion in 2013 to US$11.6 billion in 2014.
Optech’s preliminary analysis of 2014 data found that the demand for industrial laser systems grew at a double digit rate in Asia, and was better than average in North America. The study found that growth in Europe was less than average in 2014 due to weak economic conditions.
Market growth was in response to demand for laser systems for high-power cutting and welding, as well as precision processing, which includes additive manufacturing and low-power cutting, drilling and welding. Laser products for microprocessing in the electronics industry demonstrated moderate growth. Fiber lasers grew faster than other laser types.
Optech expects the global laser systems market to continue at 7 to 9 percent growth through 2015.
