Heliatek Selected for Technology Pioneer Award

7 August, 2015—The World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, has named photovoltaic solar-film manufacturer Heliatek GmbH (Dresden, Germany) on its annual list of Technology Pioneers. The Forum’s selection committee of 68 academics, entrepreneurs and business investors identified 49 innovative companies from hundreds of entrants in 10 countries based on their innovation, potential impact, viability and leadership. Recipients must have a working prototype. Heliatek is the only German company designated.

Heliatek has developed organic photovoltaic thin films that can be applied to windows, building facades and vehicle rooftops. The company claims to hold the record for efficiency in organic photovoltaic films at 12 percent. The manufacturing process of vacuum deposition and roll-to-roll enables ultra-thin layers of organic molecules to be cost-effectively deposited on a flexible PET film.

Past recipients of the Technology Pioneer Award include notable companies Google in 2001, Wikimedia and Mozilla in 2007 and Kickstarter in 2011.
