3D Systems Acquires Prototyping Firm CRDM, Ltd.

August 23, 2013—3-D printer provider 3D Systems (U.S.A.) announced on August 20 the acquisition of CRDM, Ltd. (United Kingdom), a rapid prototyping and rapid tooling service. The purchase will integrate CRDM’s products and services, including laser sintering, into 3D Systems’ line of “Quickparts Solutions” custom parts and manufacturing services. The acquisition will expand the line into the United Kingdom, and expand 3D Systems’ portfolio of content-to-print services. The acquisition follows shortly after the $15.1 million purchase on July 15 of Phenix Systems (France), a leading provider of direct metal laser sintering 3-D printers.

CRDM specializes in creating parts and tooling via stereolithography, CNC machining, and selective and direct laser sintering, for the automotive sector, including Formula 1 motorsports racing, as well as aerospace and medical device applications.
