Trumpf Announces Joint Venture for Ultrashort Pulse Lasers

November 30, 2012—Industrial laser manuacturer Trumpf (Ditzingen, Germany) has announced a new joint venture with attosecond scientist Ferenc Krausz to develop and manufacture ultrashort pulse lasers for the scientific market. Trumpf Scientific Lasers GmbH + Co. KG, located in Munich, is based on Trumpf’s high-power disk laser technology. Krausz is a professor of experimental physics at Ludwig Maximilian University (Munich) and director of the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics. Krausz and his research team were the first to measure attosecond light pulses. Trumpf is the majority shareholder.

The new enterprise will expand Trumpf’s product range to include ultrashort pulse lasers, which are primarily used in scientific applications. The company plans to find new markets for ultrashort pulse lasers and expects the venture will lead to expanded research and development in industrial lasers.

Jens Rauschenberger is the new managing director of Trumpf Scientific Lasers.
