This is a useful guidebook for anyone involved with system design and testing of visible and infrared detectors. The second edition features three new chapters on multiple-element photodetectors, focal plane arrays and readout electronics integrated circuits. The authors start by describing detector basics (radiometry, thermal and photon detectors, advanced detectors), and cover engineering issues like testing and related skills (measurement uncertainty, cryogenics, vacuum, optics and optical materials, Fourier analysis).
