Optical Code Division Multiple Access: A Practical Perspective

This book delivers more than its title seems to promise. Rather than simply presenting the key principles of Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA), it also provides a very useful introduction to optical fiber transmission systems. As such, given some additional material (e.g., on principles of semiconductor lasers), this book could serve as a text for a course on optical communications networks. The first section covers basic principles, while the second part focuses on OCDMA. The chapters include a range of exercises designed to test the reader’s understanding of the material laid out in the book’s 345 pages. The text is well-illustrated and includes an appropriate selection of references. As suggested above, there could perhaps have been a brief discussion of the basic principles of semiconductor lasers, but otherwise this book does more than it says “on the tin."
