Exciton polaritons have long been studied from the perspective of optical properties of semiconductors and as an exactly solvable model. The advantages of low-dimensional structures have revived the interest in them. This monograph reviews exciton polaritons in microcavities, covering interactions, fast dynamics, spin-dependent phenomena, coherence and non-equilibrium condensation, as well as applications. This review is valuable not only for scientists approaching this subject for the first time, but also for experts in other disciplines who want to stay up-to-date on this fast-growing field.
