Advanced Quantum Mechanics

This is a clear and concise graduate-level text book with an emphasis on applications. It is ideal for readers wishing to apply quantum mechanics to construct quantum dots, qubits and nanodevices. The first chapter reviews elementary quantum mechanics, and then the authors move on to explore advanced topics. Each chapter contains multiple control questions to check on the reader’s comprehension, short biographies of physicists, end-of-chapter problem sets and detailed solutions, as well as a summary of key terms and equations. With the introduction to second quantization of bosons and fermions, the authors proceed to discuss real-world examples: magnetism, superconductivity, superfluidity and the role of broken symmetry. The authors use a fresh approach to discuss the quantization of fields, the interaction of radiation and matter and coherent states, which I found to be very helpful.  This unique presentation ends with a brief introduction to relativistic quantum mechanics.
