Introduction to Adaptive Lenses

This volume is a survey of the emerging field of adaptive lenses. Researchers hope to use this technology to replace an array of fixed focal length lenses with a single variable focal length lens in a compact, inexpensive device. Adaptive lenses will become increasingly important in both scientific and commercial applications.

The authors are very active contributors to the subject area of adaptive lenses.  Their book presents a wide array of related devices. The description of each is very thorough and well-referenced. Ren and Wu have made liberal use of diagrams and images, making the book easy to understand. Readers will find it stimulating and informative.
