Stephen Harris, professor emeritus at Stanford University, has played a leading role in many engineering advances—making the FM laser, observing parametric fluorescence, detecting electromagnetically induced transparency and slow light, and, most recently, developing techniques for generating and modulating single photons. He will deliver a plenary talk at CLEO: 2013 on the evolution of parametric down conversion over the past half-century. The meeting takes place 9-14 June, in San Jose, Calif., U.S.A.
