In November 2011, OSA President Chris Dainty and CEO Elizabeth Rogan attended Optics and Photonics Japan 2011 in Osaka. Dainty presented a plenary address and met with the president of the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), Yasuhiro Shiraki. OSA and JSAP renewed their cooperative agreement during their meeting.
Dainty and Rogan also visited the OSA student chapter at Osaka University, which presented their impressive outreach activities and proposed new events aimed at facilitating networking among student members and chapters. Former OSA Board member Satoshi Kawata hosted Rogan and Dainty at the 4th Handai Photonics Day at the Photonics Advanced Research Center (PARC). They were introduced to Toshio Hirano, President of Osaka University, and given a tour of PARC.
