During CLEO/Europe-EQEC 2011, Chris Dainty, OSA President, and Wolfgang Sandner, president of Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft (DPG) presented the joint 2011 Hebert Walther award to Marlan Scully of Texas A&M and Princeton Universities, U.S.A., for his fundamental and applied contributions: from the quantum theory of optical and micro-masers to the quantum eraser, and from inversionless and correlated emission lasers to anthrax detection. Dainty also recognized two new OSA Fellows: Stefan A. Maier, Imperial College London, United Kingdom, and Pietro Ferraro, Istituto Nazionale di Ottica Applicata, Italy.
