OPN Talks with Mordechai (Moti) Segev

It is clear in talking with Moti Segev that he is an explorer—not only of mountains and glaciers like the one pictured at right, but also of the frontiers of nonlinear science—including solitons, lasers and nonlinear optics. The Distinguished University Professor of Physics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology will take a break from his high-adventure hobby (and his laboratory research) to address attendees at the Plenary Session of the Conference on Lasers and Electro Optics (CLEO:2011), taking place May 1-6 in Baltimore. Segev, who has won awards ranging from the European Physical Society's prestigious Quantum Electronics Prize to OSA's Max Born Award, spoke with us about his wide-ranging interests and accomplishments and offered some advice for young professionals and students entering the field.
