Modern fiber-optic cables were created more than 30 years ago in a lab at Corning Inc. Since then, they have helped to shape the world into the "information society" that it is today. Donald Keck was a key member of the Corning team that first invented low-loss optical fiber in 1970. Since its creation, low-loss fiber optics has transformed the way the world communicates. It has paved the way for monumental innovations such as the high-speed Internet.
