Presidents of the Late 1940s
OSA historian John Howard remembers three Society leaders.
August Herman Pfund was born in Madison, Wis., U.S.A., on December 28, 1879. After attending public secondary schools, he went on to the University of Wisconsin, studying under the famous physicist R.W. Wood and earning a B.S. in 1901. When Wood left Wisconsin to teach at Johns Hopkins, Pfund followed his mentor and continued his own studies at Hopkins.
