LightLab Imaging was founded on a leap of faith—the belief that a tiny amount of light reflected from just below the surface of a tissue carries a wealth of diagnostic information.
When LightLab was founded in 1998, optical coherence tomography had not yet been established as a technique for developing micrometer-resolution cross-sectional images inside biological tissues. The company’s founders took a gamble on the technology—and it paid off, due in part to their pioneering contributions in collaboration with colleagues at MIT.
