Lasing Mechanism Depends on Electron Momentum

A new lasing mechanism was recently reported from a quantum cascade laser that appears to depend on non-equilibrium electrons with high momenta.

A new lasing mechanism was recently reported from a quantum cascade laser that appears to depend on non-equilibrium electrons with high momenta. Kale Franz and others at Princeton University (N.J., U.S.A.) noticed a second lasing wavelength, with notably different characteristics from the design wavelength (Nature Photon. 3, 50).
