In 1973, at the age of 11, I held my first job at the Optical Society. I was on “special assignment,” contracted to help assemble hundreds of sets of Uniform Color Scales. My father, Jarus W. Quinn, who at that time was executive director of OSA’s seven-person operation, brokered the arrangement.
